There is an unmistakable sense of stepping back in time when hosting a wedding within a tenth-century Italian fortress. Tucked away in the olive-covered hillsides just outside Rome. The historic village of San Gregorio da Sassola provides an exceptionally private and unique setting for a destination celebration. The journey of the day began within the grand interiors of the estate. Where centuries-old frescoes and soft, diffused window light offered a quiet, majestic sanctuary for the bride and groom’s portraits before the main events unfolded.
Long before the castle gates opened for the main day, the celebration had already begun back in the historic center of the city. Gathering for an welcome dinner at the Eitch Borromini terrace just a few days before. Overlooking Piazza Navona set a beautiful, relaxed tone for everything that was to follow out in the Italian countryside!

The Ceremony on the Panoramic Terrace Overlooking the Countryside
Following the early afternoon portrait sessions, everyone moved upward to the castle’s signature feature: the Panorama Terrace. Reached via a fairytale spiral staircase. This elevated stone catwalk walkway extends outward to offer completely unobstructed views across the valleys and distant mountain ridges. Exchanging vows on this open-air stage feels suspended above the landscape. The layout creates a natural, dramatic aisle for the processional. While the high stone walls provide a beautiful architectural frame. For a wedding ceremony, the elevated position captures the clear, bright Italian sun beautifully, highlighting every emotion against a timeless horizon.

Sunset Aperitivo on the Castle Grounds
The energy shifted seamlessly into a relaxed celebration as guests descended to the main terrace and surrounding gardens. The historic property grounds allow a very natural flow for family photos and group portraits without pulling the couple away from the party. The seamless blend of outdoor gardens and grand architecture connects beautifully to other classic Roman venues. Such as the open-air courtyards photographed during a scenic Church wedding at Sant’Alessio in Rome. As afternoon turned to evening, the historic stone walls caught the rich amber tones of the golden hour. Guests mingled through the outdoor lounges with cocktails in hand, experiencing the changing light as the sunset cast deep shadows across the medieval architecture.

A Grand Dinner and the Cutting of the Cake
As twilight settled over the hills, the gates opened to the castle’s indoor dining halls. The indoor rooms hosted a magnificent banqueting environment, where historic centuries-old frescoes on the walls and crystal chandeliers beautifully lit the tables for dinner. Heartfelt speeches and toasts echoed through the space between courses of exceptional Italian cuisine. While lifestyle photo sessions continued on the outside during the blue hour. Following the meal, the evening culminated in the open courtyard under the soft glow of hanging lanterns. Where everyone gathered around the couple for the traditional cutting of the wedding cake.

First Dance and Live Music Festivities
This magical moment served as the perfect transition into a fun open bar after party. Kicking off with a romantic first dance elevated by a vibrant light show and live music. Driven by a spectacular band playing non-stop hit songs. The celebration quickly evolved into a dance floor where everyone took turns taking center stage. Guests of all generations let loose under the vibrant event lights. Singing and dancing along to classic tracks and posing for fun photos with a large feather boa and masks! The incredible acoustics of the old stone fortress walls carried the music and celebratory energy late into the night, closing a flawless weekend in the Italian countryside!
