Sposi Novelli Morning Photo Session in Rome

By 7 July 2026

A Quiet Thursday Morning at Saint Peter’s Basilica

The session took place on a Thursday morning instead of Wednesday when the Novelli Sposi event normally occurs. Allowing us to access Saint Peter’s Square in the morning and enjoy the beautiful sun rising light. We met just outside the square and then headed in under the colonnade to begin this photoshoot in Rome in wedding attire!  Where warm sunlight filtered through the columns and created long bands of light and shadow. From the very beginning, the light guided our choices of poses and frames. A few steps were often enough to discover a different composition. So the session naturally unfolded by following the changing light beneath the colonnade!

Following the Morning Light

Once we had explored the colonnade, we gradually moved into the open square. The side fountain became our next stop, where the gentle sound of the water and the fresh morning air added another dimension to the experience. Soon afterwards, we photographed beneath the façade of Saint Peter’s Basilica, taking advantage of the changing sunlight as it illuminated different areas of the square.

We photographed the morning with a cinematic approach, balancing gentle direction with natural movement. As the couple walked, talked, smiled, and simply enjoyed being together. Many of the photographs developed naturally between one portrait and the next. Small gestures, shared glances, and moments of laughter often became the images capture by the photographer that best reflected the morning.

Via della Conciliazione to Castel Sant’Angelo

Leaving the square, we continued along Via della Conciliazione. Where we allowed the walk itself to become part of the session. Some photographs were taken while they walked hand in hand. Others came during short pauses whenever the morning light revealed another interesting opportunity.

The session ended at Castel Sant’Angelo, where the bridge, the river, and the castle introduced a different backdrop without changing the relaxed rhythm of the morning. We finished with a final collection of newlywed wedding portraits before the city gradually became busier around us.

Why an Early Morning Novelli Sposi Session is Worth It

Choosing an early morning photoshoot session in Italy is not only about quieter surroundings. It also creates the opportunity to experience these locations at a slower pace. While enjoying time together before the day begins. In the end, that shared experience often becomes just as meaningful as the photographs themselves. Making the memories behind the images last well beyond the day!
