Rome Family Photography Tour

By 3 July 2026

In 2010, we had the pleasure of meeting during a wonderful couple photoshoot in Rome! We also used a private van at the time, swiftly moving between locations. Stopping along the way to take photographs while enjoying the experience of being together and in love in Eternal city! Sixteen years later, in 2026, it was a pleasure to reconnect in the same city for a family photoshoot! The approach remained the same, moving comfortably between iconic locations and taking photographs along the way while letting the day unfold naturally across the ancient city of Rome!

The Trevi fountain

We started at Trevi fountain, where the stop was brief as the square was busy. With constant movement around the fountain and through the surrounding space. Within that flow, we found right away the right angle and light to begin the photographer session before continuing through the city.

Spending family time together becomes the real focus of these photo sessions. A journey like this also becomes the perfect opportunity to create photographic memories. Preserving a chapter of life that will become more and more meaningful with time.

Spanish Steps and Pincio terrace

At the base of the Spanish Steps, near the Barcaccia fountain, the area was active with people moving through the square. We worked carefully by keeping background figures small or softened through selective focus. So the family remained clearly defined in the frame. From there, we continued toward the Pincio terrace.

Where the view opens across Rome with Saint Peter’s dome visible on the horizon. The city spreads out in layers of rooftops, domes, and open sky. Including some portraits under the the Mediterranean pine trees.  The perspective from here felt distinctly roman, shaped by distance, scale, and elevation.

The Roman Forum and the Colosseum

We then continued to Piazza del Campidoglio, where the geometry of the square and the view over the Roman Forum created the perfect setting for ancient roman family portraits. The final stop was the Colosseum. We returned to areas that had also been part of the session sixteen years earlier. While parts of the surrounding city have changed over time, in both positive and more complex ways, the monument itself remains unchanged and still defines the space as it always has.

Time of the year: mid June
Time of day: 9:00 am in the morning
Duration: 2h photoshoot with van service and black and white photos
Locations: Fontana di Trevi, Piazza di Spagna, Pincio outlook, roman Forum, Colosseo

In both 2010 and 2026, the structure of the day remained the same. We moved through Rome by private van, stopping at carefully chosen locations and photographing naturally as the day unfolded across the city. At the same time, parts of the city and experience have changed over the years, some for the better and some in more complex ways. While the core idea of returning to Rome and photographing the evolution of life remained!

Curated imagery by Andrea Matone Photography, a Rome-based photography studio specializing in family photography throughout the city. Known for creating bright, natural images, our team works with a relaxed approach while providing gentle guidance when needed. With experience photographing families at locations including the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese, and the Colosseum, we create portraits that feel connected to both the people and the places that make Rome memorable.
