A Morning Portrait Experience Through Rome’s Historic Corners
A morning spent exploring Rome offered the perfect setting for a personal portrait session through some of the city’s most recognisable locations. The idea was to create natural photographs that reflected the experience of being in Italy. Combining iconic views with quieter corners where the atmosphere felt more relaxed.
We began at Giardinetti di Colle Oppio, a small green space overlooking the Colosseum from above. The early morning light was still soft, and the elevated viewpoint offered a different perspective of the ancient monument. From there, we explored different angles, using the surrounding paths and viewpoints to create portraits with the Colosseum appearing naturally in the background.
Moving closer, we continued with photographs from a lower perspective. Including portraits seated on a small ledge with the monument behind. The location offered a variety of compositions without needing to move far. Allowing the session to develop naturally around the surroundings.

From the Colosseum to Giardino degli Aranci
After the first part of the morning near the Colosseum, we continued towards Giardino degli Aranci. Visiting early was a great opportunity to photograph the area before it became much busier later in the day. The garden is also a popular location for romantic sessions, particularly during the warmer hours when the terrace offers beautiful views across the city. A different atmosphere can be found in this Giardino degli Aranci proposal session. Where the location was explored from another perspective through engagement photography.
Near the entrance of Santa Sabina, the portico provided a completely different setting. The columns created interesting geometric lines, while the low morning sun entered through the openings, creating a mixture of light and shadow across the space. We spent time exploring different compositions. Using the architecture and changing light to create portraits with a more refined and artistic feel. Finding the right position and expression became part of the process. With small adjustments making each photograph from this Rome photoshoot feel different. From there, we moved towards the entrance area. Stopping by the fountain for another series of portraits before continuing beneath the Mediterranean pine trees inside the gardens.

Portraits Above Rome
The final part of the session took place along the main terrace overlooking the Eternal city. Because it was still early, the area had a quieter atmosphere, giving more freedom to photograph without distractions. Here we experimented with different perspectives, including photographs taken from a distance using a telephoto lens. The compressed perspective brought the city layers closer together. Creating portraits where the Italian element remained an important part of the picture frame.
The morning ended surrounded by the gardens, the pine trees, and the panoramic views across the city. From the Colosseum to Giardino degli Aranci, the session offered a chance to experience Rome at a slower pace. Discovering different city perspectives through lifestyle photography.
